Officine Panerai Watch Company

Officine Panerai Company was kept in secret for more than 100 years. In 1860 its founder Giovanni Panerai signed a contract with the Royal Italian Navy to elaborate and produce the ultra secret submarine military equipment. And in that time they even didn't think about watches. But in 1936 Italian Ministry ordered Officine Panerai to create its first watch - that is the way Radiomir appeared.

In 1938 several hundreds of Radiomir watches were produced. So, thanks to military submarine patrons the company has become an independent watch brand. Radiomir watch has later become a cultic watch model. Till the end of World War II there wasn't any sign or inscription on Radiomir watch cases except numbers. It was specially done to make the identification of a watch owner difficult while an operation realization.

In 1943 the company launched a water-resistant chronograph Mare Nostrum. In 1950 one more perfect watch model Luminor appeared. It has got its name thanks to luminous substance used in this watch to improve its highlight.

Nothing was known about the company till 1977 when it was bought by Vendome Luxury Group - one of the greatest names in international watch business. Such famous watch firms as Cartier and Vacheron Constantin make a part of this group.

But at the beginning of 1990-es Officine Panerai was finally fully declassified and has become completely civilian. In 1997 Radiomir and Luminor "submarine" watch models has become accessible for rich people. Stalonne is one of Panerai watch company admirers. In commemoration of glorious submarine history, Officine Panerai annually conducts a regatta in Mediterranean Sea where vintage classic yachts take part in.
