The Return of the BrandMon, 20 November 2006 Ikepod is said to be returning. After having some financial problems, Ikepod has now found forces to overcome the difficulties and to rise again to satisfy the most refined tastes of watch connoisseurs.
Every company has bad times. This happens not always and it lasts differently, so that one company is able to withstand the difficulties of such periods, while other enterprises just disappear and if they are lucky, they will be remembered.
Ikepod seems not to be among the latter ones. Lately the company has encountered some financial problems, and in order to overcome those difficulties, they had to close the production. However, the company founded 11 years ago by Mark Newson and Oliver Ike has found new powers to restart production.
Some experts are of opinion that bad marketing and distribution strategies have led the company to that difficult situation they were recently. Older collections of Ikepod watches had an average price range of 2500 US dollars (2000 euro), whereas the prices of the new collections are still a matter of speculation.
As already mentioned, the Swiss watch brand Ikepod was established by an Australian successful designer Mark Newson and a Swiss businessman Oliver Ike in 1995. Mark Newson, however, started designing watches back in 1986, when he designed a mysterious watch called the Pod. The dial of that timepiece consisted of spinning disks and two dots, which substituted the hours and minutes hands.
Thus the name of the brand is composed of two words: Ike - Oliver Ike's last name and Pod - an earlier collection of watches from Mark Newson. The brand had gained success thanks to the retro design of the watches. In some cases this retro design turned into a really weird and strange look of the watch, which actually had its role in the popularity of these watches.
The first collection was called Seaslug, followed by Hemipode, Isopode and Megapode. All these watch collections were issued in limited editions, they consist of certified chronometers and they had always a chronograph watch. The names of the collections to come is still unknown so all we have to do is wait and expect something extraordinary from Mark Newson and his partner.
